Maktabah Samarkand was founded by a curious 18 year-old who has a deep love for books and reading. Having been a reader in the various Islamic disciplines for a few years and falling in love with the idea of new books being published from the past, I decided to find a passion in stocking books for Muslims in the West. One of the issues Muslims possess today is that we do not read enough. If we were to read into our rich heritage, we would realise our self-worth.

Bringing the newest and most esteemed pieces of literature to the West is a necessary step to bring back the intellectual glory of our spiritual ancestors. Although founded by an Arab, Maktabah Samarkand was named after a city in modern-day Uzbekistan. Samarkand was a vibrant city that produced some of the greatest jurists, mystics, and theologians that the Muslim world has ever produced. Our website and logo are inspired by the beautiful architecture of Samarkand.

Although the bookshop may be inspired and influenced by the Hanafi school, we provide for different schools of law and thought. From this, it should be known that product descriptions are strictly written from the perspective and intent of the author, and they do not represent any theological or jurisprudential views officially held by the owner. Likewise, views expressed in any of the books do not represent the views of the bookshop in any-way. We ultimately pray that the books may benefit the academic pursuits of our customers and allow them to be positively influenced to be a means of good in their communities.
